Why We Need You
Every animal we rescue, every adoption we celebrate, every second chance we give — it all happens because of people like you.
Whether you’re opening your home to a foster pet, volunteering behind the scenes, or helping at events, there’s a meaningful place for you in this mission.
As a volunteer-powered, foster-based organization, The Rescue Crew relies entirely on individuals willing to step forward and help. Together, we offer safety, healing, and hope to dogs and cats who need it most — especially those at highest risk in Minnesota shelters.
When you get involved, YOU become the difference between surviving and thriving for a homeless pet.

Foster a Pet
Fostering opens your home — and your heart — to a pet in need. You give love, care, and a safe place while they wait for their forever family. We provide supplies, veterinary care, and guidance every step of the way.
Each foster home saves a life and makes space for another animal in need.
Quick Facts:
Adults (18+) within ~2-hour radius of the Twin Cities are eligible.
We provide orientation (~20 minutes); you provide space, care, and transport to the vet as needed.
Time commitment varies: ~1 hour/day for healthy adults, up to 8+ hours/day for neonatal kittens.
Volunteer Your Time
Our volunteers are the heart of The Rescue Crew — turning hope into homes, comfort into care, and time into lifesaving moments.
From processing adoption applications and transporting pets to photographing animals or helping at events, every hour you give makes a real difference.
Whether you have an hour a month or a day each week, your time changes lives.
Sample Roles:
Adoption Crew: process applications and support adopters
Marketing & Communications: social content, photos, storytelling
Animal Care Crew: help foster caregivers, coordinate vetting
Learn More by Attending an Event
Join us in the community and see rescue in action! Whether you stop by an adoption event, meet our Crew at a fundraiser, or attend one of our community gatherings, you’ll see firsthand how lives are being changed.
Events are a fun way to meet fellow animal lovers, learn more about rescue work, and discover how you can get involved.
What to Expect
When you join The Rescue Crew, you’re never on your own.
We provide training, supplies, ongoing guidance, and a community of animal lovers who have your back — from your first day to your final farewell to a foster pet heading home.
“I’ve had the privilege of fostering through five different rescues, and I can confidently say that The Rescue Crew stands out like no other. It’s not just about providing the essentials like food, toys, treats, and beds — although they do that exceptionally well. What sets The Rescue Crew apart is their genuine care and support.”
Shelter Pets Are Not Broken, They’re Just Waiting for You.
Just because they ended up in a shelter doesn’t mean they’re damaged.
It means they’re ready — for safety, for love, and for you.
Fostering gives them the bridge they need to move from shelter life to home life. And that’s where you come in.
Every day, pets find themselves in shelters for reasons beyond their control — a family move, an owner’s passing, a landlord’s rules, or simply being overlooked. These animals aren’t flawed; they’re full of love, personality, and resilience.
Being a “shelter pet” doesn’t make them undesirable — it makes them available, ready, and waiting for a second chance to belong.
